What to Expect When You’re Splitfesting
You are free to do whatever you like, however you like, whenever you like but this is the general flow. You are welcome to join for a day or the weekend. There is an option to pitch in for the reservation costs of the cabin and stay in there. Splitfest itself is free. It’s just a group of people going splitboarding together. The cabin is surrounded by National Forest and camping is free. If you camp please don’t use the cabin since it will be full and there will not be room for you or your stuff in it. Fires are not allowed outside in the winter but it’s spring time and pretty nice outside. Cooper’s Spur Mountain resort is next to the trailhead. Staying there is a great option as well.
Friday
People come and go all weekend at various times but many people will probably be parking by 3-4 on Friday. You need an Oregon SnoPark for this lot. If you arrive early the cabin will be locked. There is limited parking. Try carpooling if you can. The hike takes most people a couple hours. Once at the cabin, Friday evening is a time to meet people and see who is touring where to make your Saturday plan.
Saturday
Do the tour you planned to do last night with your new friends. Early evening there are splitfest games, sweet prizes, and group photo.
Sunday
Tour in the morning. By mid-afternoon we all need to do the cabin clean-up: help make sure all the clean-up procedures are completed before the cabin is locked.
Food, Water & Garbage
You are on your own for food and water. You are able to melt snow in the pots in the cabin or collect it from a creek, bring a filter. You will need to pack out all your garbage.
Toilet
There is a drop toilet, bring toilet paper and hand sanitizer. It’s kind of a fancy new drop toilet with a magical conveyer belt, but still, a drop toilet…
Electricity
There is no electricity in the cabin. Bring a headlamp, flashlight, small propane tank to ensure fuel for the lanterns. Heat is provided with a woodstove.
Sleeping
If you reserved a spot in the cabin, they have tables and a woodstove on the ground level. The lofts upstairs are for sleeping.
Safety Gear
Bring your transceiver, probe and shovel. You are touring at your own risk. Oregon Splitfest is not responsible for you, your safety or your choices.
Dogs
No dogs are allowed inside the cabins. As you can imagine there’s always a rodent issue so there’s a ton of poison everywhere to keep them at bay so it’s just not safe for them
